EXPERIENCE
Executive Design Director
January, 2023 – Present
Allstate
Lead Experience Design across Product Design, Content Design, and Design Systems, helping shape how customer experiences are envisioned, created, and scaled across Allstate. Lead efforts to define future-state experiences across Auto, Property, Mobile, Drivewise, and other parts of the customer journey, giving teams a shared vision for where Allstate’s digital experiences can go and helping connect longer-term strategy to the work happening today.
Lead the evolution of the Allstate Design System from a component library into a broader platform for creating consistent, high-quality experiences. Establish reusable patterns, templates, governance, and stronger connections between design and code, while preparing the system for AI-assisted design and development through structured metadata, component contracts, design-to-code mappings, and machine-readable definitions.
Help move the organization from solving problems project by project toward creating reusable solutions that can benefit teams across products and journeys. Establish clearer design governance and accountability, strengthen collaboration across design, product, engineering, marketing, and CX, and help create an environment where teams can contribute more broadly to experience strategy and innovation.
These accomplishments are made possible by a talented multidisciplinary team and close partnerships across the organization. My role is to help set the direction, connect people and ideas, remove obstacles, and create the conditions for great work to happen.
Executive Creative Director, Digital Practice Lead
October, 2018 – January, 2023
VSA Partners
Led VSA's digital practice, bringing together experience design, visual design, content and technology to create digital products and experiences for clients including IBM, Nike, CME Group, Marvin Windows and Doors, Arity, Cole Haan and others.
Beyond the client work, I focused on building the practice itself — developing better ways of working, helping teams grow their digital capabilities, mentoring designers and other practitioners, and supporting new business.
The work ranged from digital products and mobile apps to commerce and marketing experiences. What connected it was VSA's belief that brand and experience shouldn't be separate things. We brought strategy, technology, and a high level of design craft together to create experiences that were useful, distinctive, and unmistakably connected to the brands behind them.
Group Design Director
May, 2017 – October, 2018
Fjord / Accenture Interactive
Led multidisciplinary teams across Fjord studios to tackle some of Accenture's more complicated internal experience problems.
Our work included rethinking the contractor procurement process, creating a new approach to ethics education and reporting, redesigning Accenture.com, and defining how content and marketing teams could work more effectively across the organization.
My role was often to help make sense of an ambiguous problem, establish a direction, and bring together the people and disciplines needed to move it forward.
Partner, Head of Community Success
October, 2013 – January, 2017
Timshel
Co-founded Timshel, a strategy and technology company working with organizations focused on social impact.
We brought together strategists, analysts, and technologists to help organizations better understand their supporters, build stronger relationships with them, and use data in more human ways.
I helped shape the company, our client work and a proprietary engagement platform — moving between strategy, product thinking, research, and the everyday realities of building a young company.
Group Creative Director, Experience Architect
May, 2010 – October, 2013
Razorfish
Led multidisciplinary teams designing large-scale digital experiences for companies including State Farm, Caterpillar, and AT&T.
One of the largest efforts was rethinking State Farm's core customer experiences across insurance quoting, applications, claims, and account management. The work required us to understand complicated products and processes, then find ways to make them considerably simpler for customers.
Across projects, I worked at the intersection of research, experience strategy, design, content, and technology — helping teams move from understanding the problem through designing and delivering the experience.
Creative Director
March, 2009 – May, 2010
The White House, Executive Office of the President
As Creative Director in the Executive Office of the President, I worked with an extraordinary group of people to find new ways for the public to engage with the Obama Administration.
Our work spanned WhiteHouse.gov, the White House mobile app, email and social programs, White House Tours, the Affordable Care Act, the Pittsburgh Summit, the Nuclear Security Summit, and other administration initiatives.
It was a unique design challenge: making complex policy, government programs, and the work of the administration more understandable and accessible to millions of people.
Creative Director
October, 2003 – March, 2009
Razorfish
Led creative teams across digital products and marketing experiences for clients including AT&T, Dell, Pulte Homes, Avon, Fellowes, and the San Diego Padres.
The work covered a wide range — from helping AT&T customers understand and manage bundled services to rethinking how families shop for a new home. It was also where I began moving from traditional creative direction toward the broader experience and product work that has shaped the rest of my career.
